Marla Leigh Caplan Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist in Tiburon, CA specializing in trauma informed therapy for individuals, couples & families. I bring empathy & curiosity to relational psychoanalysis, an insight oriented approach that uses the therapeutic relationship to heal while seeking understanding into the unconscious mind.
I am a trauma informed psychotherapist who works with artists, seekers and visionaries on a path towards healing and self actualization. My clients are often intuitive, empathic and gifted individuals like you.
In our work together, we'll explore your history and the formative experiences that shaped you. We'll take a look at your underlying beliefs, perhaps even some you didn't know you had, and see how these ideas are informing your habitual behaviors and responses.
Accessing your recurring dreams, early childhood memories and important relationships, both those that wounded you and those that inspired you, as invaluable resources, we'll take a close look to see how your past is impacting your future.
At each step in this process of self discovery, you will be the one to choose the direction of our inquiry and the depth of the waters in which we swim.
Bringing to light both the conscious and the unconscious material that influences your choices is the first step along the path to healing your heart, mind and spirit.
My wish is to offer you an expansive space for personal exploration that supports you to be your authentic self, find your purpose and create meaning in your life.
Through the process of self exploration, you will come to a deep understanding of yourself and your full creative potential. As your authentic self emerges with increasing complexity and awareness, your work will become richer, more nuanced and distinctly unique.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with over 10 years of experience working with couples to repair and improve their relationships.
I use a trauma informed, heart centered approach to help couples create safety, communicate with honesty, hold each other in empathy, rebuild trust, deepen their connection, rekindle intimacy and reintroduce excitement into their partnership.
Together, I can help you find ways to speak to each other more skillfully, hold one another's uniqueness with compassion, and approach your relationship with renewed curiosity and desire, whether you are seeking couples counseling to:
*Recover from infidelity
*Navigate separation or divorce
*Restore emotional and sexual intimacy
*Explore gender identity
*Cope with life's transitions
I hold no preconceptions about how your course of treatment should proceed. Some couples come to therapy to breakup, others to get back together and still others come to gain clarity about what it is they truly want.
My role is to facilitate your resolution to move forward in a way that brings you increased security and happiness, however that may look in your specific situation.
When one member of your family is hurting, the whole family suffers. Conversely, the dysfunction of the whole can show up in the behavior of a single family member. I work with families from a systems perspective that sees the family as its own complex interconnected ecosystem.
A licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Tiburon, CA, I help families like yours who are experiencing the impact of:
*Grief and loss
*Divorce
*Co-parenting
*Substance abuse
*Severe mental illness
*Trauma
I also support clients who are moving through the normal growing pains of individuation and differentiation. In other words, how do you, as a family, stay balanced in a healthy dynamic together while cultivating your uniqueness as separate individuals within a constellation of relatedness.
As a therapist, my role is to help you:
*Gain insight into the root of the problem;
*Identify and disrupt unhealthy patterns of behavior;
*Communicate effectively;
*Take responsibility;
*Act with compassion; and
*Find strategies to move forward in a different way.
Sometimes family therapy begins incrementally with one individual and evolves to include siblings, a parent, or a partner. Other times the whole family begins treatment together and one or more family members decide to pursue individual treatment. Together we will discover which approach makes most sense for your unique situation.
It takes courage to take the first step. I am a licensed psychotherapist offering discreet in person appointments to local San Francisco Bay Area residents and online therapy throughout California, providing bespoke, confidential treatment for your most sensitive needs.
